A Few Short Sayings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
While Prophet Muhammad was heading toward the battlefield, an Arab approached him, took his camel stirrup, and said: O Messenger of Allah! Teach me a deed which will take me into Paradise. The Holy Prophet responded: treat people the way you want to be treated and do not treat them the way you do not want to be treated.
One day in Medina, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) entered a mosque and saw two groups of people forming a circle and talking: One group was praying, while those in the other group, were teaching and learning. The Holy Prophet was thrilled when he saw both groups and told his companions: Both of these groups are doing good, and are both prosperous and blessed. However, I have been sent to enlighten. Therefore, he went toward the group that was teaching and learning and joined their circle.
When the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) returned from the Expedition to Tabuk, Sa’d al-Ansari went to greet him. The Holy Prophet shook and held his hand and said: why are your hands so rough? Sa’d al-Ansari answered: O Messenger of Allah, I work with a shovel and a pickaxe to provide for my family. The Holy Prophet kissed his hand and said: This is the hand that will not be touched by the burning fire of Hell.
Whenever the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) would decide to send an army to war, he would gather the forces around, have them sit in front of him, and say: move in the name of God and on the path towards God and follow in His messenger’s footsteps. If any Muslim child or adult provides one of the polytheists with shelter, they are allowed to hear God’s word in safety. If they obey you, they shall become your religious brothers. However, if they refuse to obey, you shall take them to their homes and ask for God’s help.
